Do You Want to Help Make Burien More Walkable/Bikeable?

Just imagine…

  • Leading fun walks in local neighborhoods: “I didn’t know this was here!”
  • Meeting your neighbors while having a healthy walk.
  • Working with the City of Burien to improve sidewalks and bike lanes.
  • Supporting safer, healthier ways for your kids to get to school.
  • Adding flags to make crosswalks safer.
  • …And so much more!

Walk/Bike Burien (aka “WABI Burien”) is seeking fresh energies and bright ideas to make these imaginings come true. Would you be interested in volunteering as a WABI board member?

WABI was launched in April 2012 by Burien citizens sharing a passion for making our community HEALTHIER and MORE FUN through walking and bicycling.

  • We stir things up with events and advocacy to nurture the walk/bike community in town.
  • We lead monthly walks.
  • We orchestrated the installation of and manage 41 new bike racks in town.
  • We work with the City of Burien on walkability, bike lanes, wayfinding and other walk/bike efforts.
  • We coordinate with other like-minded regional organizations.
  • We participate in “Bike to Work” Days.
  • And we’ve garnered national attention for these and other efforts.

It’s a thrill to go through town and see bike racks in use where there once were none. It’s great fun to see people show up every month to walk with folks that were strangers at first, but are now friends. And it’s a real acknowledgement to be contacted by the City of Burien when they’re seeking input on walk/bike endeavors.

Now we’re looking for people who’ll
volunteer their time as WABI board members.

Might that be you?

(or maybe you only want to be on the “Volunteer List”?)

Drop us a note with your contact info,
and tell us why you’re interested:
