Come join us for the kickoff walk of the WABI Weekday Walkers, on August 21st at 9:00 am. We’ll explore Seahurst Park before it closes down in September for a major salmon restoration project.
Date: Wednesday, August 21, 2013
Time: Meet at 8:45 am. Walk will begin at 9:00 am.
Meeting Place: In front of the restroom building in the lower public parking/turnaround area of Seahurst Park.
Parking: It’s unlikely that the lower parking lot will be filled this early, but if it is, there is further parking in the upper lot.
Directions: From Ambaum Blvd., turn west on SW 144th Street. Then turn right on 13th Ave. SW. and follow this all the way down to the lower parking lot.
Transit: There is a stop at Ambaum and SW 144th for Route 120. It’s about a half-hour walk down to the lower parking lot.
Walking route: The trail within the park is about 2.5 miles round trip with 400′ gain. An optional extension to Hurstwood afterwards is an additional approximate 2 miles with about 400′ gain. Trails in the park may be muddy depending on previous rainfall, so wear appropriate footwear.
1) We will follow the south shoreline trail to the end and come back to the restroom building.
2) Proceed past the restroom building to the north service road. Take off on the right fork to the north trail.
3) Keep following the north trail as it crosses the service road several times. You’ll have gained about 400′ when you pop out into the residential area around SW 131st Street.
4) We’ll take the service road back down to the shore, enjoying a beautiful vista of Vashon Island.
5) When you return to the restroom building, you’ll have walked about 2.5 miles, for an hour or so.
6) For an optional extension, you might walk up the park road to the Hurstwood residential development and make a loop, starting at SW 140th Street and 16th Ave SW. Round trip from the restroom building, around the Hurstwood loop, and back down to the park is roughly another 2 miles.
