Mosaic Grotto at Waterworks Gardens

Mosaic Grotto at Waterworks Gardens

This month we’ll head to Renton and the lovely and little-known Waterworks Gardens on TUESDAY, Sep 19 at 9am. [Note the change in DAY to TUESDAY, just for this month.] The King County website says, “Waterworks Gardens is designed as a series of garden ‘rooms.’ The Knoll is the entry to Waterworks. The path then passes through a series of leaf-shaped ponds, an inlaid mosaic Grotto and wetlands.”

We’ll start at a parking lot adjacent to the Springbrook Trail (see directions below). Traveling north on the trail, we’ll cross SW Grady Way and parallel the Black River to Waterworks Gardens. Once in the Gardens, we’ll travel along a lovely, paved pathway past marshes and ponds and over the intricate stonework of the grotto. There is one area where the path rises gradually, but most of the way is level. The walk is about 2.5 miles roundtrip and will take us about 60 minutes.

Date: TUESDAY, Sept 19, 2023 [NOTE THE CHANGE IN DAY]
Time:  Meet 5-10 minutes before 9:00 so we can start walking promptly at 9:00 am.
Parking: Springbrook Trail parking lot, SW corner of SW 16th St and Oakesdale Ave SW, Renton. (If you are driving south on Oakesdale and turn right onto 16th, then the lot will be immediately on the left.) From entrance on 16th St, look for small Trail Parking signs.  The drive is approximately 15 minutes from Burien Town Center.
