Walk, bike and stand up against domestic violence in our community.
Domestic violence will impact 1 in 4 women and their children.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. WABI is supporting Burien citizen, Pete Bjorhdahl’s personal statement against domestic violence, which he will make visible by tying purple ribbons onto the bike racks in our city. His aim is to help raise awareness to this problem in our community, and to show support for women who are survivors of domestic violence or are currently struggling in an abusive relationship.
“I want to thank WABI Burien for their support of the project. I also want to invite other members of the community to add their own purple ribbons to our bike racks in a show of support for the women in their lives who are victims of domestic violence,” said Pete Bjordahl, initiator of the project. “Domestic violence is not acceptable and there are no excuses for it. It is our responsibility to stand up against it and to work together to end it.”
Through the month of October, the bike racks throughout Burien will be tied with purple ribbons in a manner which has become symbolic of many different social causes. All citizens are invited to add their own ribbons. Some ribbons will be available to the public at participating businesses during the next B-Town Beat Music & Art Walk, on October 3 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.
Pete Bjordahl lives and works in Burien. Pete owns Parallel Public Works – technology and design studio, in Burien, specializing in the creation of web applications, mobile apps and software products for governments, non-profits and public space.
