The other day a bunch of Highline High School Class of ’75 classmates were gathered for chips and salsa. After a few margaritas, conversation rolled around to the Burien Bike Rack Project. Before long, all the Highline Pirates at the long table were pledging sponsorship money for a rack or two!

After a couple of days, things went viral with other Pirates on Facebook and pledges started coming in from around the country. Pirate classmate, Maureen Hoffmann (also WABI Burien President), started designing the sponsorship plaque for her class based on the Peter Max-inspired logo she did for their 30-Year Reunion.

Maureen says, “I’ve been designing for our class since 7th grade when I was creating publications in the office at Seahurst Junior High… (when it WAS a Junior High). That was when handouts were blue violet, cool-to-the-touch, smell-good “Ditto copies”. After Seahurst, I was at Highline designing posters for the hallways, programs for the assemblies, “The Pirates’ Pen” student publication and anything else that involved graphics and printing… And now bike racks and their sponsorship plaques!”

Here’s a peek, below, at what’s been cooked up for the Pirates’ contribution to the Bike Racks for Burien. How about your business or organization? Care to follow a bunch of Pirates and sponsor a bike rack? Read more here.
