Our annual celebration of Earth Day will be the theme of the April walk of the Des Moines Waterland Walkers.

Date: On Sunday April 24th, 11:00

Location: Meet at the Des Moines Fieldhouse. 1000 South 220th St., Des Moines

Theme: As we have done every April in celebration of Earth Day, on the 22nd we will be combining a fun walk around the area with a cleanup of the neighborhood. Please bring gloves, trash bags, and pickup sticks (if you have them), though you are not required to pick up trash if you wish to just participate in the walk itself.

Who: This is a free event for everyone! Friendly four-legged are also welcome.

Update on Sunday’s Walk!

I was able to borrow a few grabber sticks and buckets for us to use. SR3, the non-profit sea life rescue center at the Des Moines Marina, had their own Earth Day celebration last week by having a beach cleanup at Alki Beach. I helped out, and talked to Casey Mclean, the Executive Director of SR3. She offered to let us borrow some grabber sticks and buckets for our Earth Day walk. They are celebrating their 1 year anniversary tomorrow, Earth Day. Please visit their website, linked below, to learn about all the great work they do for sea life in this area, and help them out with a donation. Right now an anonymous donor is matching gifts to SR3, so your gift would be doubled.
