Earth Day Walk

Walk in celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd. Meet at 11:00 am in front of the Des Moines Fieldhouse, 1000 S 220th St.

We will be combining a walk around the neighborhood with helping to clean up the city. If you have grabber sticks, gloves, buckets, bags, and safety vests please bring them. Some supplies may be provided.

You have the option of walking together or separately, choosing which streets you want to walk on, and picking up trash as you go. Dogs are OK, but it might be hard to pick up trash and have your dog on a leash at the same time.

International Sculpture Day Walk

April 29th is International Sculpture Day.  Fred Andrews, with the Des Moines Legacy Foundation, has planned a celebration at the studios of local artist George C. Scott.

From 1:00 – 4:00 pm there will be kids sculpture projects, glass sculpture making, artist demonstrations, and other family fun. And just before all the activities start we are having a walk around downtown Des Moines and the Marina to check out many of the creative sculptures in the area.

Meet at 12:30 pm at George’s studio, 22220 7th Avenue South. For about an hour we will visit and learn about many of the sculptures created by talented local artists.  When we get back to the studio there will still be plenty of time to participate in the fun activities. Dogs are welcome on the walk but not inside the studio, but many of the activities will be taking place outside.

These walks are sponsored by the Des Moines Legacy Foundation, www.desmoineslegacy.org.

Thanks, Gary
