In December the Des Moines Waterland Walkers traditionally walks around downtown Des Moines, enjoying the holiday decorations and checking out the local businesses we have in town.  Often I have arranged for discounts to be offered to our walking group to encourage buying and ordering from the shops during the walk.

This year we will still have our walk around Des Moines, but won’t be asking everyone to go in the shops because of Covid risk.  As individuals, you are welcome and encouraged to support the local shops whenever you want, including on the walk, but the main focus will just be enjoying the decorations, learning about the great local shops we do have in town, getting some exercise, and meeting new people (socially distanced of course).

Date and Time: Saturday, December 19th, 11:00
Place: 21815 Marine View Drive South, Des Moines WA

Since most shops are not open on Sundays, this will be one of the few times we have our walk on Saturday.  Meet at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 19th at Big Catch Plaza, next to Dollar Tree which is located at 21815 Marine View Drive South.

Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce Promise

For another way to support local businesses, you are invited to participate in the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce Promise.  Every time you shop, buy, or dine locally in Des Moines, Burien, Normandy Park, SeaTac, or Tukwila between November 28th and December 18th, you can take a photo of your receipt and email it to the Chamber where you will be entered in the contest to win $500.  For details of the contest check out their website at https://www.seattlesouthsidechamber.com/southside-promise.

COVID Precautions

As is usual these days, please stay home if you are not feeling well.  Follow health department guidelines by wearing a face covering, use social distancing, and we will split up into separate groups if we have more than 5 people.

These walks are sponsored by the Des Moines Legacy Foundation, www.desmoineslegacy.org.

Thanks, Gary
