It was a chilly, 47 degree, windy, almost-drizzly May day today… and yet 18 walkers showed up to marvel over the new Bloomside Mural at the DESC building, soon to be complete this month.
We had a last-minute, surprise, guest appearance by artist/creator Angelina Villalobos, the mural designer. Angelina spoke with the walkers about her background as a creator, her inspiration from flowers at the Burien Farmer’s Market, and her dedication to her grandmother, mom and dear friend that had each passed away. Angelina was accompanied on the walk by her “Second Mom”, the mother of that dear friend.
The best way to get a photo of all the walkers AND the mural… was for WABI President, Maureen Hoffmann, to lie flat on the ground… twice! But such great resulting photos of seemingly long-legged walkers.
Our route took us west to the Lake Burien School Memorial Park neighborhood. When standing at the intersection of 16th Ave. SW and SW 150th, we were happily amazed to have a view, when looking east, of the mural at the end of the road! WOW! Bonus!
You’re all encouraged to view the mural by Angelina up close… or simply from afar, and enjoy the bright bouquet that’s been added to our streetscape.
Angelina’s mural design was painted by Kathleen (Warren) and Lina (Cholewinski) of OverallCreative.
Congratulations Angelina on your new, beautiful mural.
