Criterium 41st Edition Race

Bike racing returns to Burien! Join us on July 4 for the B-Town/Major Taylor Criterium. This year’s race—the 41st edition—will feature a fast level course that runs through the streets of downtown Burien. Come early to watch the best bike racing that the Pacific Northwest has to offer and then stick around for the 4th-of-July Parade.

Kicking Off Burien’s 4th of July Parade

The first race will commence at 7 a.m. on July 4, 2019, with the last one finishing up around 2:30 p.m. In total, 10 races are planned, including a kid’s race to kick off Burien’s 4th of July Parade. This is an all-ages event held rain or shine.

An estimated 250 racers, both men and women, are expected to participate. Entrants will arrive from all over the Pacific Northwest in an effort to raise money benefiting the Major Taylor Project.

As for the course, it’s going to be an exciting one! The mutual start/finish line will be located right in front of Burien City Hall and the course runs along SW 152nd, then left on 6th, then left on SW 153rd to 2nd Ave SW. Volunteers are needed. About the Major Taylor Project

Named after African-American world champion cyclist Marshall “Major” Taylor, the Major Taylor Project (MTP) is an outreach by the Cascade Bicycle Club aimed at empowering youth through bicycling. At after-school bicycling clubs MTP students explore their communities, build confidence, and discover their power to effect change.

The Major Taylor Project reaches more than 500 youth annually in central and south King County and in Pierce County. In these areas, residents speak over 70 languages and represent over 80 nationalities. Club locations are intentionally established to reach youth in low-income and diverse neighborhoods. The Major Taylor Project has established after school clubs at over a dozen schools in the south end, including Highline, Evergreen, Foster and Tyee High Schools.
