In the fall of 2012, WABI Burien and the City of Burien applied for and were awarded a grant of $10,000 from the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board for the Downtown Burien Bike Rack Project.
One of the goals was to engage sponsors for the racks, through paid sponsorship plaques, as a way to raise additional funds for this and other projects benefiting cyclists and pedestrians here in Burien. Both stock and custom rack designs were considered. In the end, WABI President Maureen Hoffmann, a designer by profession, crafted a signature, Burien-specific design for the racks which were then produced by Urban Racks.
In all, 41 bike racks have been produced, and 34 sponsors have stepped forward at a sponsorship cost of $200 per rack. Several businesses sponsored 2 racks!
We present here the list of sponsors and their plaque designs. When you go to these businesses, please take a moment to thank and applaud them for participating in this program. Their generosity benefits us all.
