The WABI Weekday Walkers will enjoy three colorful Tukwila parks on Wednesday, November 19, the third Wednesday of the month. Note new earlier start time of 9 am. Tukwila has a special park, Macadam Winter Garden, emphasizing plantings that are particularly colorful in winter. We’ll also visit Cascade View Community Park and Foster Memorial Park. As a bonus, if time and interest permit, we’ll stop by to see the miniature world of Bonsai NW. The walk is about 3 miles and should take an hour or so. It’s mostly flat with one steep (but short!) hill

Please arrive 5-10 minutes early so we can start walking promptly at 9 am.
Meeting Place: Foster Public Library, 4060 S. 144th Street. This is at the corner of 42nd Ave S. and S. 144th St., next door to Foster High School.
Driving directions from Burien: Take Highway 518 to International Blvd. (99) exit. Once you reach Int’l Blvd, head north (left), then turn east (right) on S. 144th Street. Click on the image below to enlarge the map.

Joseph Foster was an early pioneer, arriving in 1852,. He donated the land for the first school in Tukwila and was the first school superintendent.
Who is Macadam Winter Garden named after?
Macadam Winter Garden is named after the road it’s located on, Macadam Road. Macadam refers not to a person but an early kind of paving. Macadam Road was the first macadam-paved road in the state of Washington. Today, I-5 splits the road into two parts.
